Amigos de Jesus volunteer community 2016-2017

As of August 2nd here at Amigos its a new year.  A new year because there is a volunteer community!  It has been an emotional and busy time this past couple months closing out my first year as a volunteer and my first volunteer community at Amigos and entering into my second year with a new community.  With my second "year" already begun I cannot wait to see what my next six months brings!

Swim!

Summer has begun!  Summers at Amigos de Jesus are quite fun.  To help out with the care takers of the kids, a group of new volunteers from the US come and put on a summer camp for the kids called Escuelita.  For us long term volunteers, the school year is over and our main jobs are finished, so we help where we can with summer camp (and get a little break ourselves) before the next school year.  This summer I have the pleasure of being the swim assistant.  For six weeks (the first session of Escuelita) I get to go to the pool every morning with the kids.  Everyday is a different group of kids and I even get to go with my preschoolers from this past year Thursday afternoons!  Lots of great quality time with the kids and lots of summer fun by the pool.

Below are a couple photos from this past week at the pool.  Enjoy:)

Kinder is over:(

On June 24th, 2016 I had my very last day of class with my little nuggets.  It was a very very sad day.  I went into this year not happy I was teaching preschool, but I have come out not wanting to stop being their Miss Rachael.

Below are some photos from the final weeks of class.  Enjoy:)

During one of our last weeks of class was fairytale week.  We read and learned about "Little Red Riding Hood," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "The Three Little Pigs," and "Goldilocks and the Three Little Bears."  Below we took some pics with our bear masks we made after reading Goldilocks.

The theme of our very last week was "when I grow up."  We learned all about different kinds of professions such as doctors, firemen, astronauts, and so much more.  On the second last day of class I had all my students tell me what they wanted to be when they grew up and we took their photos so they could remember how silly or right they were when they were little.  The pictures below will be the ones we are putting in their memory boxes they will receive when they turn 18:)

and then we tried to take a group photo. . .

and then on our very last day of class we had a convivencia (party) with cookies, juice, and a movie.  During this time I was also able to get a photo with all my students (well all the ones that were there on the last day, two are missing)

The last week of classes

I cannot believe it!!! This week was the final week of classes for the bilingual section of the school, aka my PE classes.  Next week will be exams and then three weeks from now summer camps for the kids begins.   I do still have three more weeks with my preschoolers, but its crazy, where the time has gone, I feel like it was just yesterday it was the first week of school.  Below I took photos with all my PE classes I have taught this year in the school.

Enjoy:)

 My little first graders.

 Sassy second grade.

Third grade (minus three friends in the front that refused to be in the picture).

My favorite PE class to teach: fourth grade.

and my most challenging but my most rewarding: Educatodos (minus almost ten of the teenage boys who refused to be in the photo).
